“Every word is a seed. If you plant crab apples, don’t count on harvesting Golden Delicious.” Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Autumn made its grand entrance last week and I’m looking forward to a bushel of fresh, crisp orchard apples. Golden Delicious and Fuji are two of my favorites, but really any apple is a treat. What we learned growing up is truer than we might think – “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” For instance, one apple supplies 20% of our daily recommended fiber. German researchers have found that the components in apples may enhance the body’s ability to protect against colon cancer. And a study by the University of Massachusetts suggests that apple juice may protect against cell damage which contributes to age-related memory loss.

When God created the apple, he gave us a delicious, healthy gift. What apples are to the body; good words are to our character. Plant crabby words in your conversations and that’s what you will harvest in response. So when you speak make sure your words are sweet, helpful and encouraging. No wonder the book of Proverbs says, “A word rightly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.”
