Welcome to the Family

But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.

Galatians 4:4-7, NLT

I have several friends who have adopted children. They went to considerable expense, time, effort and emotional anguish to bring these special ones into their homes. While there is great joy anytime a child enters the family, I think these parents have a unique and special love relationship with their children. This passage reminds us of the great effort and expense that God went to in order to adopt us. The phrase “as his very own children,” in the original language refers to a legal relationships that gives us full rights of inheritance. Because of His great love, we are now a part of the family. We enjoy the benefits of living in the Kingdom of God now and throughout eternity!
