What kind of apple is your favorite?

Sep 15, 2022

September is the month of apples.  The average person eats 65 apples each year, and they can choose between over 7,500 varieties of apples. While an apple tree can produce fruit for 100 years, it can take up to 5 years for the first apple to grow on a tree.

Hi, I’m Maggie Mobley from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

If you’ve ever been to an apple orchard you’ll know that people usually reach for those apples  on the tree that are shiny, round, and just the right color.  They will often step over those apples on the ground that have fallen, those that are bruised, or discolored.

We’ve all had times where we feel bruised and broken, like those apples on the ground. But in God’s orchard, he doesn’t just reach for the apples on the tree. God picks up each and every apple from the ground and holds them gently in his hand.  1 Samuel 16:7 says “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

We don’t need to compare apples to apples, or ourselves to other people.  God loves us even when we’re bruised, because we are created in his image and he knows the seeds in our heart. When you eat an apple this season, think of God’s love for you, and turn your heart toward Him.
