The Road, the Rocks, and the Weeds

When I think of the parable of the sower, a John Mark McMillan song comes to mind. In the song, he sings “the heart of my Maker is spread out on the road, the rocks, and the weeds.” We put ourselves in the story attempting to figure out where our seeds are landing and how we can reach the good soil to produce a great crop. We should have the ultimate goal of hearing God’s word and understanding it, but I think it is also important to remember that Jesus is with you whether you find yourself among the good or bad soil.

Luke 5:31-32 says, And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” Jesus spent His time with the sinners and the hurt of the world. He was seeking the lost. Jesus was spreading himself out on the road, the rocks, and the weeds.
